For sale - March 1951 Kempes Barndoor, GBP £85,000
The Kempes March 1951 Type2 Barndoor.
For most Vintage VW enthusiasts this is a vehicle the doesn't really require any introduction.
One of the earliest examples of the Volkswagen Type2 in the world, rescued from a Swedish forest over a decade ago by Mark Spicer for Type29 Restorations.
Don't be fooled the original tatty looks, now at 73 years old this bus required very little welding compared to your average 'flat pack' pre'55 Bus builds we see today. Exterior welding wise it only required sills, One rear lower quarter, Rear window panel, Front dog legs and Repaired front lower valance.
Notice the solid rear window unique to pre April 5professionally 1 Type2's, this vehicle left Wolfsburg as a panel van and was professionally converted by a coach builder early on its life.
It is currently running a freshly built 1600tp engine (still under warranty) and fully rebuilt 1500 straight axle with a longer 4th gear perfect for motorway cruising. Disc brakes up front with remote servo so this bus stops on a dime.
Lowered all round with original SA SprintStars but the original stock beam etc... is available.
The bus has a colourful history and has had extensive features in Hayburner, Volksworld and theSamba.com.
Now is the rare opportunity to own a rare piece of Volkswagen history.
